1. Objectives

The purpose of these rules is to maintain the one design integrity of the JB 5/50. The JB 5/50 Owner's Association shall administer these rules.

2. Administration

The JB 5/50 Owner's Association shall be responsible for all class events and administration of these rules, the election of office bearers and liaison with licensed builders and the maintenance of a class register of owners.

3. Design Owner and Licensed Builders

The owner of the design is the J B Boat Co Australia who will appoint builders licensed to produce & market the J B 5/50 

within such areas as the owner deems necessary.

4. Class Membership & Voting

The Owner(s) of each yacht will pay an annual subscription to the Class Association for the right to:

(i) Compete in Class Events
(ii) Vote in matters relating to the Association

In the case of a yacht being owned by more than one person the yacht will only have one vote.

Yacht owners will be identified from a valid measurement certificate.

The design owner shall have one vote in any ballot.

5. Measurement and Owner's Certificate

All yachts will be issued with Certificate of Measurement and Ownership signed by an officer of the association. On change of ownership the Measurement Certificate must be re-validated by an Association Official.

6. Construction

(i) Hull and Deck
All boats shall be produced from moulds manufactured by the design owner and will be produced to the specification laid down by the design owner. Hulls with all deck fittings correctly attached and including the spinnaker pole and centre board will weigh 115Kg. +/- 3Kg.

(ii) Mast Assembly, Boom and Spinnaker Boom
These components may be built by others authorised by the licensed builder and may only be supplied by a licensed builder. 

(iii) Foils and Rudder Stock
These components shall be supplied only by licensed builders.

(iv) Sails
Sails and sail battens shall only be supplied by licensed builders. Any sail repair must not affect the original sail shape. The location of tell tales and leech ribbons are optional. Sail numbers shall be 305mm in height and displayed in accordance with ISAF regulations.

(v) Fittings and Hardware
 The mainsheet cam swivel base can be located fore or aft of the mainsheet traveller. The spinnaker halyard turning block location  is optional. The location of other fittings shall not be altered from their original position.

(vi) Forestay
The forestay is of fixed overall length, being 5673mm pin to pin excluding the furler but including the top swivel, halyard block and fork attachment.

7. Optional Equipment

Compass of any type
Tell tales on any sails
Mast head wind indicator

8. Class Sanctioned Events

All class events shall be conducted within the following boundaries:

Weather Conditions
Races shall not be started in winds in excess of 20 knots and shall not be continued if average wind speeds (not gusts) exceed 20 knots.

Crew
Total crew weight shall not exceed 185kg. A three person crew is permitted but they must compete in all events. There will be no substitution of helmsperson. No part of the body below the middle thigh will protrude beyond the gunwhale when hiking out. When lying along the deck no more than 1/2 of the body and head shall protrude beyond the gunwale.

Sails
A yacht shall carry only one jib, mainsail and spinnaker in each race. Sail purchases are limited to one of each type within any 12 month period.

Shroud Adjustments
While racing the shroud tensions shall not be altered.

9. Changes to Rules

Any proposed changes to these rules shall be voted upon by financial members of the Owner's Association and the ballot will be conducted by post. Sufficient time will be allowed for ballot papers to be returned.
